Here’s some simple and fun ideas sure to have your kids howling this Halloween, as seen on Daytime Tri-Cities on WJHL Channel 11.

BooBerry Brew and the Green Goblin Smoothies

Get some nutrition into those tummies before they get stuffed with candy! Halloween is a perfect time to ‘dare’ the kids into trying new things, especially when they have a fun name and festive colors. Let them draw their own faces on the cups to add to the fun. The Green Goblin is a mixture of vanilla almond milk, avocado, fresh spinach, and frozen banana. You can add a squirt of honey if it isn’t quite sweet enough for your kiddos. The BooBerry Brew is a mixture of blueberry yogurt, blueberry kefir, and frozen blueberries.

Use a sharpie to make cute pumpkin faces on ‘Cuties’ mandarin oranges. Another way to encourage a healthy snack. 🙂

Candy Corn Marshmallow Pops are super easy! Just get a lollipop stick, put it into a marshmallow and dip it into melted yellow candy melts. When it’s hardened, dip into melted orange candy melts. You’re done!

The Puking Pumpkin is happy to share his guacamole with anyone brave enough to take it! I put the pumpkin on one plate, and the dip on another right next to it, alongside tortilla chips.

These bat and spider cupcakes are sure to please the kids! For the bat, take a chocolate sandwich cookie cut in half for the wings. A small peanut butter cup makes the face, with white chocolate chips for the eyes. A dot of black gel makes the pupil. For the spider web, flat ice the cupcake in white and draw concentric circles with black gel. Using a toothpick, drag out the spokes of the web, from the center out. I made a fun spider, using a small peanut butter cup, Junior Mints for the head, black licorice for the legs, and white sugar bead eyes.

Pumpkin Dip Holders are a quick and easy way to add a festive touch to your party. Just empty out a pumpkin and use the shell to hold your favorite dip. You can line it with plastic wrap if you wish. I filled mine with a pumpkin spice dip (see  http://bakingwithjulie.com/no-bake-pumpkin-spice-treats-plus-a-bonus/) and a ranch dip for veggies.

Dry Ice Fog isn’t hard to do, but it doesn’t last long! Not in small amounts, at least, like the size to fit into this pumpkin. To get this effect, I used a wide mouth pint jar filled with warm water, and put a two-inch (approximately) square piece of dry ice into it. This size will give a nice fog for about 5 minutes. BE CAREFUL WITH DRY ICE. Always use gloves when handling and never try to put it in your mouth. Or wash pieces down your kitchen sink. Or put pieces in a tightly closed container with water. You get the idea. I did a little research and tried this out at home before I gave it try on camera. Realize that when you buy dry ice, it will sublimate (go straight from solid to gas) and disappear by the next day. So buy as close to the time you are going to use it as possible.
